| Apicoectomy or Apical
Surgery is performed on a patient to surgically remove the root tip
of a tooth and the surrounding infected tissue. This is done in lieu
of a root canal failure or an infected/damaged root tip.
This procedure consists of a small incision to the gum tissue,
exposing the inflamed area. The tip of the root is removed and a
filling is placed over the end of the root so that further infection
or complication can be prevented.
The healing process of this apical surgery can take a period of
months as the bone heals around the once infected root tip. During
this time, you may experience soreness as the surgical area may
swell up. This is normal and as long as this area is treated with
care, your healing process should conclude normally.
